Vertigo
- Vertigo is one of the most common presenting complaints to the emergency department. There is a large variation in practice with ⅓ of patients receiving a computed tomography of the brain and 98% of these being negative. Up to ⅓ of patients with a stroke causing their symptoms will be misdiagnosed on initial presentation.
- Our research program focuses on the diagnosis and treatment of patients who present to the emergency department with vertigo. Current projects are focusing on improving the diagnosis and treatment of one cause of vertigo, benign paroxysmal positional vertigo. We are conducting a prospective multi-centre study.
